Never has there been a generation with more noise then ours. We stay plugged in, tuned in and turned on almost all day. If we don’t have something going on in our ears, we have images going into our eyes. You might say, consider the following.

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I’m God” Isaiah 30:15 “In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” Starr Daily was a hardened criminal that found freedom through God’s amazing love and forgiveness. He was able to bring God’s love and healing power to his generation. He said the following. “No man or woman of my acquaintance who knows how to practice silence and does it, has ever been sick to my knowledge.”

The practice of silence can be more soothing and bring healing than most medicines. How can we learn the art of silence? Pascal, the great scientist, said: “ After observing humankind over a long period of years, I came to the conclusion that one of mans great troubles is his inability to be still.”

To develop silence, I suggest the following. Go alone to a quiet place. Do not read, write, listen, or watch anything. Begin by letting a mental picture of the most peaceful scene pass across your mind. Through the power of imagination, you can transport yourself back to that peaceful scene and experience its healing influence. Then begin to repeat out loud some of the most magnificent words ever, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” Psalm 23:1. “Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in me,” John 14:1. “God is my refuge, and underneath are His everlasting arms.” Deuteronomy 33:27.

Say these scriptures slowly and repeat them over and over, His peace will fill your heart and mind, and you will discover a source of strength and healing.
