Alfred was born in Stockholm Sweden in 1833; he was a brilliant student, he became an inventor, chemist, and a linguist. In 1863 he exploded nitroglycerin and two years later invented dynamite, the mercury fulminate detonator, and the projectile propellant. But something was about to happen to Alfred that would change the course of his life.
In 1888 he had the shock of his life when reading the obituary column in the local newspaper, he saw his name! Being very much alive he soon realized what had happened, his brother had passed away, and the paper had confused the two. What startled him was not seeing his name, but what they said about him. They reported that his inventions had furthered the cause of war. His intentions were not war but the advancement of cities and roadways etc.… So armed with a new idea, Alfred set out to change his future. And today when you here his name, Alfred Nobel, you don’t think of war, but of peace, the Noble Peace Prize.
Many times it’s the interruptions of life that cause us to re-examine ourselves. If you are unsatisfied with the direction of your life, you can change it! Philippians 3:13-14 tells us how. “This one thing I do, forgetting those things that are behind, reaching forth towards those things that are before me, I press towards the mark of God’s high calling in Christ Jesus.” Stop living in the regret of the past, cut the umbilical cord of the yesterday, then give today your best, and have huge hope for your future!
