We can blame so much on our surroundings, the current conditions of the economy, or life in general, however, all of these are just excuses for not wanting to face the real issue, that being us. Proverbs 23:7 tells us, “As a person thinks in their heart, so shall they be.” Let me relate an old story but change the dollar amount to fit into our present year.
Elmer Wheeler had been hired to be a sales consultant to a particular firm. A salesman in that firm always managed to make almost precisely $45,000.00 per year, regardless of the territory they assigned to him or the commission he was paid.
Because this particular salesman had done well in a rather small territory, he had been given a larger and much better one. But the next year, his commission amounted to almost the same amount, $45,000.00. The following year the company increased the commission paid to all salesmen, but this salesman still managed to make only $45,000.00. He was then assigned one of the company’s poorest territories and again made the usual $45,000.00.
Wheeler had a talk with this salesman and found that the trouble was not in the territory but in his own valuation of himself. He saw himself as a $45,000.00 per year man, and as long as he held that picture of himself, outside conditions didn’t matter.
So my question to you is, are you holding yourself back? Change the way you see you, and life will change for you.
I want to really challenge you to do more with this idea, so I’ve made available a series called “I Dare You.” Get it now.
