In a twenty-four-hour news cycle, every television or radio station is trying to grab the headlines and most of the time it is through negativity. People seem more drawn to a dark picture then a positive. But negativity has a devastating effect upon our lives.
Winston Churchill said it best. “You live out in practical terms what you believe about the future. When the prophets of doom paint a dark picture of our future we begin to live in terms of the narrow and short-term. We shrink in fear; we become self-centered, we insulate ourselves with the instant and sensual.
But when we see our future with hope and promise, we’ll start living boldly and expansively, we will take risks necessary for success and will think in terms of generations yet unborn.”
You and I are like a bicycle; it only has balance when it’s moving forward. Hope and promise are more, much more than just a good thought. Hope is a picture of a future promised to you from God. The only way our lives can move forward is to have a positive image of the future, and that picture will come through God’s promises. Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I have towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Don’t allow discouragement to dominate your thinking, get a picture of a great tomorrow and hold onto it. That picture will be like a magnet moving you towards its fulfillment. We always go in the direction of our thoughts. So refuse to live out of memory instead live out of imagination!!
