Epictetus, the great Stoic philosopher, warned that we should be more concerned about removing wrong thoughts from our mind than removing tumors and abscess from the body.

Dr. G. Canby Robinson declared that four out of five patients admitted to John Hopkins Hospital were suffering from conditions brought on in part by emotional strains and stress.

Montaigne, the French philosopher, adopted these seventeen words as the motto of his life. “A man is not hurt so much by what happens, as by his opinion of what happens.” And our opinion is up to us! Let me repeat it, it’s up to us, it’s up to you!

H. J. Englert discovered this truth; he had everything you can think of wrong with him; he had severe kidney disease, scarlet fever, extremely high blood pressure, he was told that it was fatal. He put his affairs in order and went home to die. He buried himself in deep depression and made everyone around him miserable, after a week of self- pity, he said to himself, “you might not die for a year yet, so why not try to be happy while you’re here.” He threw his shoulders back, put a smile on his face and attempted to act normal, he forced himself to be cheerful, then something began to happen. “The first thing I knew,” he said, “I began to feel better, almost as well as I pretended to feel.” Months after he was supposed to be in the grave, he was happy, alive, and well. He gave his body a chance to heal itself, by nothing more than changing his mental attitude.

Proverbs 4:20-22 says, “Listen, son of mine, to what I say. Listen carefully. Keep these thoughts ever in mind; let them penetrate deep within your heart. For they will mean real life for you and radiant health”. It’s up to you!
