Perhaps the most read Psalm is Psalm 23, and within that Psalm, we find these words. “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid.” Note, “When I walk through,” if you know you can get through it, you can get through it!

On a foggy morning in July of 1952, Florence Chadwick waded into the waters off Catalina Island, intending to swim the channel to the California coast. She was an experienced swimmer and previously became the first woman to swim the English Channel in both directions. But that morning in 1952 there was something different, the fog was so thick she could hardly see the boat that accompanied her.

Armed with determination, she began. Several times she heard rifles being fired at the sharks. She swam for more than fifteen hours before asking to be lifted from the water. Her trainer encouraged her to swim on, letting her know they were close to land. But when Florence looked up, all she could see was fog, dense fog. She quit with only a half a mile from her goal.

Later she said, “I’m not excusing myself, but if I would have seen the land, I might have made it.” It wasn’t the cold, fear or even exhaustion that caused her to quit, it was the fog, she couldn’t see the land! This is what makes most of us give up, no end in sight! If you know you can get through it, YOU CAN!
