The battle is not self-motivation; it’s the battle to act! I’ve got news for you, motivation is not going to strike you like lightning. Motivation is not something that someone else – a nurse, doctor, family, or spouse- can give or force on you. The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation, instead just do it.

Exercise, lose weight, build a business, take the trip, or whatever. Do it without motivation, and then something happens, something almost incredible happens. After you start doing it, whatever it is, that’s when and not before the motivation kicks in and will keep it going. Motion creates motivation. Not the reverse.

Motivation is like love and happiness; it’s a bi-product. Only when we act, get engaged in doing something will motivation emerge and fill us with its energy. Harvard psychologist Jerome Bruner says, “You’re more likely to act yourself into feelings than feel yourself into action.”

The Bible always puts action ahead of emotion. If we wait for the emotion of love, forgiveness, kindness etc.… more than likely, we will wait forever, but if we put the action of love, forgiveness, and compassion by doing things for others, the emotion will always follow. So Act! Whatever it is you know you should do, do it!!!

  3. I have always believed that I needed to wait for motivation to strike in order to accomplish something! THISS passage was JUSST what I needed to read this morning, so I am glad I checked my email before starting my day! Now I know that I’ve been tricked into thinking motivation will just happen to me, instead of ME making it happen!! Thank you so much for your inspiration! Keep up the good work & God Bless!
